March Madness of travel at ABE

April 24th, 2019 |

Over 18,000 more passengers than last month

Last year, it took until mid-summer for Lehigh Valley International Airport (ABE) to reach 76,000 passengers.

Thanks to a March Madness of travelers last month, ABE reached its second highest single month total since 2011. In March, 76,512 passengers traveled through ABE – a 15.46 percent increase from Mar. ‘18.

Month              Passengers                Percentage increase             Month              Passengers

“This positive momentum continues with strong performances from all four commercial carriers, which indicates a strong economy and air travelers choosing the convenience of their neighborhood airport,” said Thomas R. Stoudt, Executive Director, Lehigh-Northampton Airport Authority (LNAA).

By the numbers, American reported a total passenger increase of 49%, followed by Allegiant up 9.7%, Delta jumped 8.5%, and United increased 5.9%.

“Daily service to Chicago aboard American started in April, and the impending arrival of seasonal service to Nashville and Savannah / Hilton Head aboard Allegiant in the coming weeks has us anticipating a very busy summer travel season. We’ll also be focused on improving the passenger experience with critical escalator / elevator repairs and reinvesting in our infrastructure by continuing Phase 1 of the Runway 6-24 rehabilitation project,” said Stoudt.

This March marks 18 consecutive months of positive passenger growth dating back to October 2017.
