LEHIGH-NORTHAMPTON AIRPORT AUTHORITY RECEIVES APPROVAL TO RELEASE LAND FOR FEDEX GROUND

July 10th, 2015 |

ALLENTOWN, PA – The Lehigh-Northampton Airport Authority (LNAA) received the Environmental Assessment (EA) Finding Of No Significant Impact/Record Of Decision (FONSI/ROD) required to release airport land for the construction of a FedEx Ground Distribution Center.

This is the final approval required by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to release this federally-obligated land for non-aeronautical development.  After meticulous review of 23 categories, it was determined the project will have no detrimental environmental impacts.

While some may have traffic concerns surrounding this project, studies project that road improvements will improve traffic issues currently seen by many of the users of the roadways. “We are confident the proposed improvements will provide better overall traffic flow than in the past”, said Charles Everett, Executive Director, LNAA.

Officials expect, during the morning’s busiest hour, to add 20 tractor-trailer trips to the roads, and during the evening’s busiest hour, 63, a small number when you consider the 22,000 vehicles that travel it per day. Tractor trailers are restricted to only traveling Race Street, Airport Road and Route 22.

The authority has completed all necessary responsibilities and is currently in the process of finalizing a closing date with the Rockefeller Group.  The full document is available in person at the Lehigh Valley International Airport.
