Airport unveils digital display encouraging passengers to help save environment

(Hanover Township, PA) – The Lehigh-Northampton Airport Authority (LNAA) “Recycling is Responsible” Program celebrated America Recycles Day on November 15th by unveiling this new digital display recognizing the 95 tons of recycled materials by the LNAA in the past year.

Since March 2016, the LNAA Recycling Committee has met monthly to develop ideas aimed at alerting staff, tenants and customers on ways they can cut airport waste and conserve resources.

“We have worked hard to identify ways to improve our recycling methods and also create an easier process for passengers and other airport users,” said Darren Betters, Director of Business Development, Lehigh-Northampton Airport Authority.

Brand new recycling receptacles and additional disposal areas were placed throughout the Main Terminal, Wiley Terminal, TSA and Baggage Claim. Additionally, recycling receptacles were upgraded and re-distributed to employees, tenants and stakeholders, while adding more recycling dumpsters at facilities operated by LNAA.

“Don’t throw items that can be recycled in the terminal trash can, instead we are encouraging passengers to support our initiative by taking the extra step and recycling,” said Betters.

Airport Authority terminal services staff have also been proactive through implementation of environmental friendly products including cleaning chemicals, paper towels toilet paper and toilet seat covers.

“Having been involved with recycling initiatives for 25 years, you can’t force people to take the extra step to recycle but making a commitment to educate and emphasize the importance can really make a difference,” said Paul Hallbauer, Terminal Services Supervisor.

America Recycles Day is celebrated on November 15, to raise awareness about recycling, educate on the benefits of recycling and encourage the purchase of products made from recycled materials.
