Travel Takeoff

October 24th, 2023 |

71,722 passengers traveled through ABE in September

(Hanover Township, PA) – Following a five-month stretch of decreased passenger traffic, Lehigh Valley International Airport (ABE) experienced a travel takeoff in September.

“In an effort to minimize the potential for disruptions during the summer travel season, airlines reduced capacity for a few months. “Now, as those removed seats begin returning to the market, including at ABE, passengers are certainly taking advantage,” said Thomas R. Stoudt, Executive Director, Lehigh-Northampton Airport Authority (LNAA).

In September, 71,722 passengers traveled through ABE.

By the numbers, Allegiant increased 21% and American remained flat. Meanwhile, Delta passenger traffic dropped 2% with United declining 21% from last September.

With nonstop service aboard Allegiant to Denver, Colorado already underway, ABE is counting down the days until flights to Melbourne, Florida begin in November.

“Due to Melbourne’s proximity to the Kennedy Space Center, we believe Florida’s Space Coast can become another place for rest and relaxation for Lehigh Valley residents. The City has a world-renowned arts district, entertainment venues like the Brevard Zoo and access to fantastic beaches,” said Stoudt.

23,936,930 pounds of air cargo was processed through Lehigh Valley International Airport (ABE) in September – an increase of 15.3% from September 2022.
