Summer Travel Surge at ABE

Passenger traffic numbers surpass July 2019
(Hanover Township, PA) – A resurgence of summer air travel at Lehigh Valley International Airport (ABE) in July produced passenger traffic numbers that flew past 2019.
97,221 passengers used ABE last month – a 252% percent increase from July 2020.
“Leisure destinations for family vacations and getaways were of course the popular choice, as this 2021 summer travel season returned to pre-pandemic levels quicker than aviation experts anticipated across the country,” said Thomas R. Stoudt, Executive Director, LNAA.

By the numbers, Delta reported a massive passenger traffic increase of 1,175%, United jumped 743%, Allegiant moved up 205%, and American finished 116% ahead of last July.
Important for travelers: To ensure you don’t miss your flight at ABE, we advise all passengers departing between 5:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. to arrive at least 2 hours (industry standard) before their morning flight to ensure processing through the TSA checkpoint in enough time to reach your gate for on-time boarding. The TSA checkpoint opens at 3:30 a.m. daily.
“Passenger activity is still high at TSA checkpoints including ABE, so we recommend passengers give themselves extra time for processing and also remind them the mask mandate remains in effect until January 18, 2022 at all U.S. commercial service airports,” said Stoudt.
19,949,562 pounds of air cargo was processed through Lehigh Valley International Airport last month – a sizable increase of 34.52% from July 2020.
