Strong Finish Brings Increase At ABE

Highest passenger traffic for the year since 2012

Behind a three-month surge to finish 2017, the Lehigh-Northampton Airport Authority (LNAA) is excited to announce that more passengers are choosing the comfort and convenience of Lehigh Valley International Airport (ABE).

An 8.2% increase in December travelers helped passenger traffic reach its highest level at ABE since 2012.  In 2017, 692,154 passengers traveled through ABE – that is a 0.5 percent increase from 2016.

“While this is a modest jump in passenger traffic, it’s our third straight year of increased passenger activity, which keeps momentum going forward into 2018 as the Airport welcomes additional flights to our current leisure destinations,” said Thomas R. Stoudt, Interim Executive Director, Lehigh-Northampton Airport Authority (LNAA).

“We are extremely grateful to every passenger and the Lehigh Valley community for choosing ABE when scheduling their vacations, business trips and other travel,” Stoudt said.

During 2017, air cargo volume increased significantly at ABE.  207,181,968 lbs. of air cargo was processed through ABE – 64.5% more than January-December ’16.

“Growth within e-commerce continues to influence increased air cargo activity at ABE and the Airport Authority has demonstrated a long-term commitment to e-commerce by completing an air cargo aircraft ramp expansion in December to accommodate future growth,” said Stoudt.
