83,524 passengers traveled through ABE in August

(Hanover Township, PA) – With the summer vacations officially over, Lehigh Valley International Airport (ABE) posted another solid travel season from June through August.

“The Airport served ¼ of a million passengers during a busy summer season and the remainder of the year is expected to be steady with airline capacity levels increasing after a slight reduction,” said Thomas R. Stoudt, Executive Director, Lehigh-Northampton Airport Authority (LNAA).

In August, 83,524 passengers traveled through ABE.

By the numbers, United increased 9.7%, Allegiant decreased 5.4%, and both Delta and American passenger traffic numbers declined by 20% from last August. 

For the first time in nearly 50 years, passengers using Lehigh Valley International Airport (ABE) aren’t starting their journey through an underground tunnel linking the Main Terminal to the Satellite Concourse.

“We opened the new TSA Checkpoint on August 30^th, and passengers immediately noticed the upgraded efficiency for security processing. Travelers have expressed their delight with this stunning addition and how the new space really enhances the customer experience at ABE,” said Thomas R. Stoudt, Executive Director, Lehigh-Northampton Airport Authority (LNAA).

The new $35-million facility addressed critical operational needs which include:

• An additional lane for TSA security processing (with the potential for expansion)
• Improved vertical circulation equipment
• Shorter walking distances with separation of arriving and departing passengers
• Medical-grade air purification (LifeAire System)

ABE has expanded passenger connectivity in 2023, with nonstop service aboard Allegiant to Denver, Colorado already underway, and the arrival of new service to Melbourne, Florida scheduled for takeoff in November.

23,019,282 pounds of air cargo was processed through Lehigh Valley International Airport (ABE) in August – an increase of 25.2% from August 2022.
