Airport Authority introduces a pathway to elevate the customer experience

(Hanover Township, PA) – With passenger traffic rising at Lehigh Valley International Airport (ABE) for two consecutive years, the Lehigh-Northampton Airport Authority (LNAA) introduced and discussed a preliminary pathway to further elevate the customer experience during their October Board of Governors meeting.

“Information obtained from the Master Plan Update for ABE has supported the Airport’s assertion that traffic will significantly increase in the future, but with passenger growth happening faster than our forecasts, we must address these essential infrastructure improvements with a heightened priority,” said Thomas R. Stoudt, Executive Director, LNAA.

This multi-phase and multi-million dollar investment project will help ensure ABE maintain’s a competitive edge while delivering the Airport Authority’s vision of being the best regional airport system in North America. There are two main areas of focus:

  • TSA Checkpoint –  Increasing capacity from 2 processing lanes to 4.
  • Vertical Circulation – Intuitive wayfinding for inbound and outbound passenger flow with reduced vertical transitions between levels.

Phase 1 is the Main Terminal TSA Checkpoint, Connector, and Vertical Circulation upgrades which has expected project duration of approximately three years with a total cost of $22 million.

“It’s safe to say that this is still in the early stages as we continue identifying funding sources for this major capital investment while refining the overall building program with the Board of Governors,” said Stoudt.
