June 29th, 2015 |

ALLENTOWN, PA – Two staff members will be recognized at Tuesday’s pinning ceremony as part of the monthly Board Meeting at LVIA.

Captain John Demyan has been promoted to Chief, while firefighter Adam Grube has been promoted to Lieutenant. The last pinning ceremony at LNAA was held in 2008.

Demyan started his career with the LNAA Fire Department in February 1991.  He was promoted to Lieutenant in September 2008 and later to Captain in June 2012.  John serves on a committee which updates the International Fire Service Training Association (IFSTA) Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting Manual and also serves on a committee which updates the National Fire Protection Association ( NFPA) Publication #407 (Standard for Aircraft Fuel Servicing).  As head of the ARFF Department, he is responsible for the overall integrity, planning and coordination of departmental activities, including crash, rescue & firefighting; basic and advanced emergency medical services, fire protection systems and other related areas.

Grube started his career with the LNAA as a Part-Time Firefighter in November 2010 and became a Full-Time member of the Department in June 2012.  Adam holds the position of EMS Coordinator for the Department and supervises the activity of all personnel on his shift.

Aircraft rescue and firefighting (ARFF) is a special category of firefighting that involves the response, hazard mitigation, evacuation, rescue and emergency medical response to airport emergencies.  Airport firefighters have advanced equipment and training in the application of firefighting foams, dry chemical and clean agents used to extinguish aviation fuels.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) mandates ARFF operations at all U.S. airports that serve scheduled passenger air carriers. The LNAA ARFF Department is a group of highly dedicated and trained staff that consists of 7 full-time and 3 part-time personnel.
