Lehigh Valley Zoo and LVIA partnership features 9-foot giraffe display in terminal to help raise funds

Allentown, PA – Passengers won’t only be looking up to see aircraft when visiting Lehigh Valley International Airport. Through a new partnership with the Lehigh Valley Zoo, LVIA will showcase two Masai giraffes and help raise awareness of the ongoing fundraising effort to develop new exhibits at the zoo.

The 9-foot display is located in Wiley Terminal and gives those traveling an opportunity to pose for a photo with the tallest land mammals in the world.

“It’s important for LVIA to be engaged with the community by supporting other venues and this also creates a fun customer experience for those walking to their gates,” said Charles Everett, Executive Director, Lehigh-Northampton Airport Authority.

Lehigh Valley Zoo is in the middle of a capital campaign effort to raise funds to introduce the Masai giraffes to visitors this summer. There are fewer than 37,000 remaining in the wild.

“Lehigh Valley Zoo is looking forward to the new partnership developed with LVIA to bring awareness regarding our advancement efforts and general awareness for the zoo at large,” said Melissa Borland, president & CEO, Lehigh Valley Zoological Society.

A three-stage, three-year growth plan is underway with the goal to add a comprehensive Africa-based experience with new exhibits for animals including, but not limited to, a lion, hyrax, wildebeest and tortoise.

“The zoo brings a unique and educational environment to the Lehigh Valley, and our ability to showcase this to visitors is very exciting.”

Passengers will be able to donate by visiting www.lvzoo.org or calling 610-799-4171.
