Lehigh Valley International Airport Receives Volunteerism Award

The Spirit of Volunteerism Organizational Award to be presented on Nov. 1
Allentown, PA – The Lehigh-Northampton Airport Authority is excited to announce that Lehigh Valley International Airport has been selected as the 2016 recipient of The Spirit of Volunteerism Organizational Award presented by the Lehigh Valley Volunteer Center. The Airport Authority received a nomination for this honor from The ARC of Lehigh and Northampton Counties.
Since 2014, LNAA, Allegiant Air and The ARC of Lehigh and Northampton Counties have worked together on “Wings for Autism.” Hosted at LVIA in May, “Wings for Autism” helps prepare people with autism and other intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families to enjoy the experience of traveling by air. This real-life dress rehearsal includes: proceeding to the ticket counter, security clearance by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), walking through the terminal and boarding the plane. The entire day allows the participants the opportunity to face challenges and hopefully eliminate the anxiety of traveling by plane.
“Planning and executing “Wings for Autism” wouldn’t be possible without the dedication of staff, volunteers and representatives from Allegiant Air,” said Charles Everett, Executive Director, Lehigh-Northampton Airport Authority. “Each year, this special event creates a strong level of excitement throughout the Airport and provides inspiration for everyone involved.”
In just two years, “Wings for Autism” at LVIA has impacted 150 kids and their families. We are extremely proud of this partnership with The ARC of Lehigh and Northampton Counties.
LNAA will be recognized at the Spirit of Volunteerism Awards dinner on Tuesday, November 1st at DeSales University
