Lehigh-Northampton Airport Authority Police Help Raise Awareness About Sexual Violence

April 11th, 2016 |

National Crime Victims’ Rights Week is April 10-16

Allentown, PA – The Lehigh-Northampton Airport Authority Police Department is joining Lehigh County District Attorney James Martin and the Crime Victims Council (CVC) of the Lehigh Valley in their effort to raise awareness and educate communities on how to prevent sexual violence.

LNAA police vehicles will display a teal magnetic ribbon that reads “End Sexual Violence” during National Crime Victim’s Rights Week, April 10-16.

“The LNAA is proud to join this fight against sexual violence while showing support for those victims and survivors in every community,” said Charles Everett, Executive Director, Lehigh-Northampton Airport Authority.

According to CVC Outreach Educator, Emily Rieser, the agency decided to try distributing the ribbon magnets which have been used across the country by several rape crisis centers in other counties. They are thrilled with the participation from local police departments in both Lehigh and Northampton County.

“Victims’ Rights Week and Sexual Assault Awareness Month are important because it is a time to raise awareness around issues we don’t often talk about and show support for victims of crime,” said Rieser.

The Office for victims of crime helps lead communities throughout the country in their annual observances of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week (NCVRW). This year’s theme, “Serving Victims. Building Trust. Restoring Hope,” underscores the importance of early intervention and victim services in establishing trust with victims, which in turn begins to restore their hope for healing and recovery.
