January jumpstart rings in 2020

February 24th, 2020 |

11% percent increase from previous year at ABE

(Hanover Township, PA) – Fresh off its highest passenger total since 2004, Lehigh Valley International Airport (ABE) continues its climb with a strong takeoff to start the new year.

In January, 61,309 passengers traveled through ABE  – a 11.68 percent increase from Jan. ’19 – which extends a streak of 28 consecutive months of positive passenger increases.

“Previous travel trends at ABE demonstrated a slow down in passenger traffic during January and February, but the momentum we’ve sustained for over two years isn’t showing signs of slowing down. We can’t express our appreciation enough for everyone choosing their neighborhood airport,” said Thomas R. Stoudt, Executive Director, Lehigh-Northampton Airport Authority (LNAA).

By the numbers, Allegiant reported a significant passenger traffic increase of 31%, while American jumped 9% and United was up 4%. Meanwhile, Delta slightly declined in traffic for the month by 4.1%

“Similar to 2019, I’m anticipating that all airlines serving the Lehigh Valley will have positive growth, and that’s exciting as the Airport enters a new phase of expansion with our focus on improving customer service. Celebrating the arrival of Allegiant’s crew base operation in February certainly kicked off the travel year on a high note,” said Stoudt.
