Amazing April at ABE

May 20th, 2019 |

83,560 passengers chose their neighborhood airport for air travel

It hasn’t happened since 2004, which is the last time Lehigh Valley International Airport (ABE) reached 1 million passengers.

In April, 83,560 passengers traveled through ABE – a 27.28 percent increase from April ’18 – and the second highest single month total since 2011.

This amazing April also marks 19 consecutive months of positive passenger growth dating back to October 2017.

Month              Passengers                Percentage increase             Month              Passengers

Apr. ’19                83,560                                 27.28%                        Apr. ’18                65,648

“It’s a combination of many factors. Certainly, the start of twice daily service to Chicago aboard American Airlines produced a lot of momentum, plus we noticed a travel surge with people taking advantage of spring break for some rest and relaxation,” said Thomas R. Stoudt, Executive Director, Lehigh-Northampton Airport Authority (LNAA).

By the numbers, American reported a total passenger increase of 53.3%, followed by Allegiant up 25%, Delta jumped 17%, and United increased 4.3%.

“Excitement continues building at ABE with the impending arrival of seasonal service to Nashville in May and Savannah / Hilton Head in June aboard Allegiant. We remain focused on improving the passenger experience ahead of the busy summer travel season as critical escalator / elevator repairs are underway, coordination for additional parking spaces, and the completion of paving of the Runway 6-24 intersection during a recent airport closure in early May has us breathing easier,” said Stoudt.
