55,338 passengers traveled safely through ABE last month

(Hanover Township, PA) – The steep descent of passenger traffic at Lehigh Valley International Airport (ABE) due to COVID-19 travel restrictions occurred in April 2020. One year later, the resurgence has begun!

55,338 passengers used ABE last month – a 1,913 percent increase from April 2020.

“Talk about a roller coaster ride at your neighborhood airport. The lowest monthly passenger throughput at ABE since 1952 occurred in April 2020, which has been followed by a rocket ship ride back to 2017 passenger numbers for April 2021 – a very welcome sight to see,” said Thomas R. Stoudt, Executive Director, LNAA.

By the numbers, Allegiant reported a massive passenger traffic increase of 3,976%, United jumped 2,718%, Delta moved up 2,262%, and American finished 715% ahead of last April.

“These airline numbers certainly reflect the impact that vaccinations and pent up demand are having on air travel. We are optimistic this trend will continue with the summer vacation season rapidly approaching and flights to leisure destinations already departing nearly filled,” said Stoudt.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Transportation Security Administration (TSA), and the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) remind the traveling public that air travelers are still required to wear masks on planes and in airports. Visit for COVID-19 prevention efforts at ABE, plus TSA and airline travel requirements.

19,414,733 pounds of air cargo was processed through Lehigh Valley International Airport in April – a minimal decline of 7.50% from Apr. 2020.
