April 12th, 2021 |

First responders and airport personnel to participate at ABE on Saturday, April 17th

(Hanover Township, PA) – Lehigh Valley International Airport (ABE) is hosting a full-scale disaster exercise of the Airport Emergency Plan (AEP) on Saturday, April 17th from 8:15 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. This is only an exercise.  It is not open to the public.

Airports are required to by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to conduct these exercises once every three years. *Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the exercise was delayed in 2020.

Personnel from the Lehigh-Northampton Airport Authority (LNAA) and (35) mutual aid partners / agencies within the region will respond to a simulated emergency, including firefighting and rescue equipment, emergency medical services, and law enforcement agencies during a simulated emergency scenario involving an aircraft. Nearly 30 volunteer role players and an ignited fire are scheduled to be used for training purposes.

“While certain elements have been adapted for pandemic safety protocols, the exercise must achieve FAA standards while ensuring airport personnel and local emergency organizations are able to practice and prepare for a mutual aid response in the event of a major disaster at ABE,” said Thomas R. Stoudt, Executive Director, LNAA.
